History
Cái Chanh became an important revolutionary base during the First Indochina War. From 1949 to 1954, it was used by the Southern Regional Party Committee, the Southern Central Office, and the Southern Resistance Administrative Committee. Several senior leaders worked here during this period, including Lê Duẩn, Lê Đức Thọ, Phạm Hùng, and Ung Văn Khiêm.
The location was valuable because its dense vegetation and extensive waterways made movement and communication possible while providing natural protection from outside forces. Local communities also played an important role in supporting the base.
During the later stages of the Vietnam War, Cái Chanh again became the headquarters of the Bạc Liêu Provincial Party Committee. On 20 November 1973, a major meeting was held here to announce the re-establishment of Bạc Liêu Province and its new provincial Party Committee.
On 13 January 1975, the Bạc Liêu Provincial Party Committee also met at Cái Chanh to adopt its plan for the liberation of the province. The headquarters was later moved closer to Bạc Liêu as military operations developed.
The site was recognized as a national historical site in 2011 and was elevated to a National Special Historical Site in 2020.
Best Time To Visit
